Teachology 2.0

Teachology 2.0

Welcome to our Technology-Integrated Teaching site.

Otherwise known as “Teachology 2.0″.
(Teaching + Technology = Teachology 2.0)

Why the 2.0?

In a nutshell, web 2.0 is just a term to talk about the interactivity and connectivity that makes up the content on the web. In the past, the web was basically used to retrieve content and information with participation limited to “bulleting boards” (forums), or comments. Now web content is driven by the user/consumer. People create the connections (tagging, social networking, etc), create the content (blogging, etc). Thus the internet has developed beyond what many viewed as ’static” pages into “MEdia” – or media driven by everyday people or “me”. If you really want to know the history of the term Web 2.0, please feel free to check out this site for a brief overview (wikipedia) or this one (an explanation by Tim O’Reilly who coined the term).

What are we going to do?

This site will help us facilitate the learning and communicate about the process for our Professional Learning Community. With permission from the California School Library Association (CSLA) 2.0 Team, we are basing some of our activities and the format on their awesome “School Library Learning 2.0“. (Check them out for a list of the “23 Things” they did together. They have now created “Classroom Learning 2.0″ which will also serve as inspiration for us. We will be exploring some of the same ideas and concepts that they did but from a teaching/classroom integration prospective.)

While have not yet determined the number of “things” that we will cover, it is easy to see how we could reach 23 “things” as well. Each item will help us explore the possibilities of technology-integrated teaching as well as how we can help our peers gain confidence and skills. These tutorials and steps are meant to help facilitate our own learning and help us provide staff development or serve as resources for our colleagues.

The important part about this community is communication and participation. Please follow the tutorial provided for the week and link back/comment with your links or results so we can all learn from each other.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN: Make sure you have a working email that receives mail quickly (in order to respond to confirmation emails, etc). We highly recommend gmail as your internet based email provider. We will be exploring the possibilities of gmail in the future (like documents, “powerpoints”, sharing documents, google maps, etc which all associate with your gmail account). Gmail is free and relatively spam-free at that!

Each step of this process will have both information for your to explore/read AND an activity for your to complete. Please be sure to read the material (or participate in the discussion if you are at the sessions) as well as to complete your “assignment” for that step. After STEP ONE (Blogging), you will create posts about your experience or new learning in accordance to the assigned topic.

(PLEASE NOTE: The following list of STEPS will be updated as we progress.)
